Allen Build (South East) Limited initially approached us to create a system to manage refurbishment contracts during the defects liability period, as the business needed to recover retention payments after the defects liability period.
The primary driver for the project was a number of brown field re-development projects undertaken for housing associations. The housing associations were asking contractors to record any defects reported within set periods and wanted to see the results before releasing any retention payments.
Outcomes
It was essential that the housing associations, their on-site staff, Allen Build site managers and contracts could all access the system. The Allen Build managers were running a number of locations across London and needed to access the system whilst travelling between and on-site, so it was essential the hand access via mobile devices (at the time we used HP’s iPAQ PDA).
Solution
We developed a web based on-line database application that was accessible from desktops and mobile devices. The HP iPAQ PDA was selected as the most suitable device for the site managers, which was connected through a mobile dongle.
The system was used for a number of social housing projects throughout the South East as well as a refurbishment contract at Windsor Castle.
